Abstract
Purpose: The performance of medical education program is measured by pass rate of Korea Medical License Examination (KMLE). Our study was designed to provide basic data on the competence of medical education program of Chungbuk National University Medical School (CBNUMS) in terms of performance of KMLE. Materials and Methods: We studied 197 students who finished curriculum in 4 years without fail and/or leave of absence. Students were classified into 5 groups according to the last year of the 4-year course; 2008 (N=48), 2009 (N=36), 2010 (N=46), 2011 (N=31), and 2012 (N=36). Grade Point Average (GPAs) from 1st to 3rd years and simulation KMLE (sKMLE) of 1st and 4th test were used and their correlations were analyzed. Results: GPAs from 1st to 3rd years showed high correlation among them, and sKMLE also showed high correlation between 1st (May) test and 4th (November) test. The 4th sKMLE was correlated best with GPA of 3rd year. The test scores of 4th sKMLE remained the same over 5-year period in Graduate Medical School students. However, they tended to rise in Medical College students, 10% higher in the year of 2012 (p<0.05). Conclusion: The 3rd year GPA showed high correlation with the 4th sKMLE, which we presume would be very close to real KMLE. Since the score of the 4th sKMLE is showing rising tendency in Medical College students, medical education curriculum of CBNUMS could be appraised to be positive and progressive.
